It refers to the distance between the leading edge of the Tandem cabinet profile and the front edge of the cabinet. For face-frame cabinets, this setback is measured from the face frame’s front edge. For frameless cabinets, it’s measured from the front edge of the cabinet side panel.
Runner Setback for Overlay Drawer Fronts
For cabinets with overlay drawer fronts, the runner setback is typically 3mm (1/8 inch). There is one exception to this: the Blum Tandem Edge, which requires a 4mm setback (not covered further in this article).
Runner Setback for Inset Drawer Fronts
Calculating runner setback for inset drawer fronts involves more factors than overlay drawers. It is not simply the drawer front thickness added to the 3mm setback. Instead, the following elements come into play:
- The locking device being used
- Sub-front thickness
- Drawer front thickness

For inset drawers, the depth-adjustable BT51.1901 PS is the most popular and highly recommended locking device.
Calculating Runner Setback with BT51.1901 PS
- For B563H, B563., B569H, and B569:
- Sub-front thickness + Drawer front thickness – 9mm (11/32 inch) = Runner setback
- For B563F, B563A, B569F, and B56A:
- Sub-front thickness + Drawer front thickness – 12mm (15/32 inch) = Runner setback
General Runner Setback for Other Locking Devices (BT51.1901 20, BT51.1901, BT51.1801 20, and BT51.1801)
- For B563H, B563., B569H, and B569:
- Sub-front thickness + Drawer front thickness – 11.5mm (7/16 inch) = Runner setback
- For B563F, B563A, B569F, and B56A:
- Sub-front thickness + Drawer front thickness – 14.5mm (9/16 inch) = Runner setback
